Athanor from Grande Cuisine is up to scratch at Wentworth

Wentworth Golf Club is the home of the European PGA (Professional Golfers Association) and prestigious golfing institution based in the heart of the Wentworth estate in Virginia Water, Surrey. Founded in 1922, the club is closely associated with professional golf in the UK and boasts three 18-hole championship golf courses – the East Course, the West course and the Edinburgh course; as well as an executive par-3 nine-hole course.
Wentworth also has a tennis and health club, consisting of a gymnasium, dance studio, health spa, swimming pool, changing rooms and cafeteria.
As part of a huge refurbishment of the club and its facilities by its owners, the club house kitchen has been updated, re-designed and re-fitted with equipment supplied by Grande Cuisine.
The refurbishment of the kitchen was overseen by former restaurant manager Devid Isabella. The project was specified by commercial kitchen design consultants Humble Arnold Associates and fitted out by C&C Catering Equipment of Chester.
Grande Cuisine supplied and installed a central island Athanor suite measuring 3280mm x 2000mm. The central island configuration creates an ergonomic space which delivers an efficient working environment. Giving complete flexibility, space can be optimised for the best workflows to achieve reduced operating costs and faster service.
The Athanor suite is conventional in design. Most of the heating is delivered by gas appliances. It comprises three gas solid tops, eight 6kW vortex style open gas burners and a single 9kW vortex style open gas burner designed to be used for pan Asian Wok cooking. The vortex burners deliver instant heat for traditional and rapid cooking.
Also included in the suite is a 6kW electric multi-cooker which is an integrated ‘pan of water’ for chaufont cooking and making pasta. A single inset gas fryer provides added flexibility while two traditional gas roasting ovens – one on each side of the island suite – are set below the suite top to the service end of the suite. A gas salamander grill is set on to an over-shelf.
There were restrictions on access to the site, so the suite had to be constructed and delivered in two sections and then welded together on-site. Grande Cuisine’s service meant that the kitchen was fitted seamlessly into place.
With the complete flexibility provided by the Athanor island suite it’s no surprise that the chefs at Wentworth are smitten with their new cook suite – Athanor is a chef’s love affair after all.
